You may need to have a full bladder for this scan, as this makes the ultrasound image clearer.

You can ask your midwife or doctor before the scan if this is the case. Find out more about what happens during a pregnancy ultrasound scan.

If your first ultrasound gives you a due date that is more than 1.2 weeks away from what was expected, there is a good chance that everything is still fine.

You may have simply conceived earlier or later than you thought you did (which can happen if your cycle is at all irregular or if you remembered your last menstrual period date incorrectly).

Mine was fine and was told boy and had boy but a girl who lives near me was told girl and fine room pink all girls clothes and had a little boy so if they say boy I think they have seen his dinky if they say girl make sure it's not hiding its dinky lol x All 3 of mine were right. It's not 100% but the NHS don't tend to tell you ales they are pretty sure. At our 20 week they zoomed in to our boy and showed us! I've heard they can get it wrong thou but it doesn't happen that often.

You could just keep receipts (just in case) but I wouldn't worry too much it probably is a boy, I'd guess it's more likely to be wrong the other way round...

All pregnant women are offered an ultrasound scan at around 8-14 weeks of pregnancy. It's used to see how far along in your pregnancy you are and check your baby's development.

It is recommended that all pregnant women have a scan in the first trimester at around 12 weeks of pregnancy to confirm their dates. But early ultrasound due dates have a margin of error of roughly 1.2 weeks, so doctors will usually keep the original due date (the one generated by the date of your last menstrual period) if the ultrasound due date is within that margin of error. If you can't remember your last menstrual period date or if you have consistently irregular cycles, the doctor can use an early ultrasound to give you a fairly reliable due date. You do not need to have a full bladder, a moderately filled bladder is needed for a proper examination. Most parents look forward to their scan because it gives them the first glimpse of their baby.
